Weekend in Athens

I had a rather interesting weekend in Athens. I arrived to find this... A police stand off with 33 year old Jamie Hood. He had locked himself inside an apartment with 9 hostages. It was later found out that he had 10 hostages and one escaped.
Finally, around 12:30, Hood surrendered to police. Hood is being charged with the March 22 murder of Senior Officer Emer Christian and attempted murder of Senior Officer Tony Howard. The shooting took place about a mile from April's apartment complex.

Saturday morning, April and Sara were working at a yard sale, so I treated myself to lunch at what is quickly becoming one of my Athens favorites. Mirko Pasta. The food is great and the portion size is just enough. It was raining, they were playing classical music, I had a book- it made for relaxing lunch.

April, Sara and I hung out around the house all day. (The rain really put a damper on our pool plans). We went to grab dinner at Mexican restaurant and then headed over to Barnes and Noble. There I picked up Emily Post's book, Etiquette and BRIDES magaizne. There is Frances!!! The magazine did a story about brides loosing weight for their wedding and she was one of the brides chosen to be featured. Isn't she beautiful!!

Sunday morning, Sara headed to her church and April and I headed over to Athen Church. Sean Seay was speaking and he did a great job. Athens Church will be moving into a new building in June so Sean's message was all about why we should invite people to church. It was a great message to hear even if you don't attend AC. Plus it ties in with our Sunday morning series here at Sherwood: CSI Southwest GA.

April and I walked out of the Classic Center to see the Patriot Guard Riders. Dozons of motorcyclist lined the street holding American flags. Since it was windy all the flags were blowing. It was beautiful. They were there to show respect for Officer Christinan, whose funeral was going to be held at the Classic Center later that day.

As we walked to our car we passed a process of police cars on their way to the Classic Center.

I ended my visit to Athens by going with April and Sara to TOMS, Style your Sole. I don't have a picture of my shoes but I think they are pretty cute. April is so proud that I now have three pairs of TOMS.
